Biography from History of the State of Kansas - 1883:<BR><BR>J.E. Faidley, was born in Somerset County, PA October 9, 1840. Removed to Ohio thence to Iowa, thence to Nebraska, and came to Jewell County, Kan., in Oct 1870 and took a homestead adjoining the town site of burr Oak. Purchased from Lewis and <BR>Godfrey part of the town site of Burr Oak. He is the owner of 2,000 acres of land in Jewell County and a large part of Burr Oak, and had an interest in a hardware and farm implement establishment in Burr Oak, also an interest in a large stock<BR>of merchandise, and had done a great deal toward the upbuilding of the young and thrifty town of Burr Oak. He is a member of the German Baptist Church. He was married in Falls City, Nebraska in June of 1870 to Mrs. Joanna Ives. They have<BR>five children - Leulla, Albert, Irena, Marshall and Allen. He also owns a large interest in the town of Cambridge, Nebraska, in Furnas County on the B. & M. R.R.<BR><BR><BR><BR>Obituary:<BR><BR>John E. Faidley was born in Somerset township, Somerset county, PA. Oct 9, 1840 and died in Wichita, KS Jan 20, 1918. He was the eldest son of the E.J. Faidley, and grew to manhood on the farm now occupied by William Dietle, in Greenville Twp. <BR> He taught the Samuel J. Miller school in Summit Twp. one term in the later 60''s after which he went west - first to Jasper County, IA then to Richardson County, NB, and to Jewell county, KS in 1869 where he homesteaded and proved up on a<BR>quarter section. He was one of the founders and also one of the first merchants of Burr Oak, KS and made that his home for many years. The last fifteen years he lived in Centralia, WA and just last July he with his wife, a son and a daughter<BR>made a 3,000 mile overland trip in an automobile from Centralia, WA via Sacramento, Reno, Salt Lake, Denver and Superior, NB to Wichita, KS. The remains were interred at Wichita. He is survived by his wife, Joanna Ives Faidley, and eight<BR>children two having died in infancy.
